Deaths of twin newborns: Kalubowila TH launches probe
In a tragic twist of fate, twin newborns lost their lives at Kalubowila Teaching Hospital, sparking concerns about potential medical negligence.
The hospital has already launched an investigation into the deaths, according to the director of the hospital.
The parents, who reside in Piliyandala, hurried to Kalubowila Teaching Hospital on 8 this month, anticipating the birth of their babies, which was originally scheduled for 23 September.
On 9 September, a son and a daughter were born, but regrettably, the boy passed away on 19 September due to complications related to his low birth weight. Initially, medical professionals cited poisoning as the cause of death, but later revised their diagnosis, attributing it to respiratory issues.
A few days later, the remaining baby girl also tragically succumbed while receiving care in the preterm unit. Hospital staff informed the parents that the infant had passed away during a breastfeeding session on the morning of 23 September.
In the midst of this heartbreaking ordeal, the parents are seeking justice for their departed children, holding onto hope that a comprehensive investigation will uncover the circumstances surrounding these tragic deaths.
