Travel ban imposed on Sachithra Senanayake
Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today issued a directive to the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration, instructing them to implement a travel restriction on Sachithra Senanayake, a former national cricket player. The imposed travel ban is set to be in effect for a period of three months.
This decision comes in response to a request put forth by Senior Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris. The request pertains to allegations involving Sachithra Senanayake’s alleged involvement in match-fixing during the Lanka Premier League held in 2020.
During the proceedings, it was disclosed that the Attorney General’s Department has provided directives to the Special Investigation Unit of the Sports Ministry, instructing them to formulate criminal charges against Sachithra Senanayake in connection to the mentioned incident.
