Ramith Rambukwella remanded

Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali has ordered the remand of Ramith Rambukwella, son of former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, until June 3. The order followed his arrest by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) after he appeared before the Commission to give a statement on May 21.
Ramith, a former national cricketer and member of his father’s personal staff, was named a suspect in an ongoing corruption investigation involving his father. The move comes a day after the court granted CIABOC permission to investigate him as part of the same case.
Meanwhile, Keheliya Rambukwella, who was arrested earlier this month in connection with three corruption-related complaints, was also remanded until June 3. He was last elected to Parliament from the Kandy District under the SLPP ticket in 2020 but did not contest the November 2024 election.
The CIABOC is also investigating the Rambukwella family over the alleged acquisition of two luxury apartments in Colombo 3. In September last year, the Colombo High Court barred occupation of the properties, following a request by the Commission.
