Pesticides Registrar removed: Gazette lifting glyphosate ban revoked with immediate effect

The Ministry of Agriculture announced that Registrar of Pesticides Dr. J.A. Sumith has been removed from his post with immediate effect and gazette lifting glyphosate ban revoked.

Dr. Sumith issued a Gazette Extraordinary yesterday (22) revoking the order imposed via a gazette in December 2014.

The said gazette in 2014 prohibited the use and sale of five chemical pesticides, Glyphosate, Propanil, Carbaryl, Cholopyrifos and Carbofuran.

The Registrar, however, says that he cannot be removed from the post as he obtained approval from Legal Draftsman to issue the Gazette Extraordinary to lift the ban on 5 chemical pesticides including Glyphosate.
