Zoo employee died in utility pole collapse

On the evening of August 15th, a tragic incident occurred at the Dehiwala Zoological Garden resulting in the unfortunate death of an employee.

Reportedly, a substantial tree situated in front of the Animal Hospital within the zoo premises unexpectedly fell, striking a utility pole. Regrettably, the utility pole subsequently collapsed onto an employee who happened to be passing by at that moment.

The 54-year-old worker was swiftly transported to the Colombo South Teaching Hospital in Kalubowila for urgent medical attention. However, despite the efforts made, he ultimately succumbed to the injuries sustained.

The individual who lost his life in this incident has been identified as Upul Senarath, holding the position of chief security officer at the zoo. This tragic occurrence has deeply affected the Dehiwala Zoological Garden community.
