Underworld Figure “Podi Lassie” Arrested in Mumbai

Janith Madushanka, alias “Podi Lassie,” a notorious Sri Lankan underworld figure and drug kingpin, has been arrested in Mumbai, India. Interpol has officially notified Sri Lankan security authorities about the arrest.

“Podi Lassie” was granted bail on December 9, 2024 by the Balapitiya Magistrate’s Court under strict conditions. He had been named as the second suspect in a case involving alleged death threats made at Boossa Prison against former President Maithripala Sirisena, the then Defence Secretary, and senior officers of the Prisons Department.

Previously held in remand custody at the high-security Boossa Prison for over two years, “Podi Lassie” faces numerous charges, including drug trafficking with alleged involvement of Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) officers. Several criminal cases against him remain pending in various courts.
