Switzerland to Assist Sri Lanka in Recovering Assets Held Overseas

The Swiss government has pledged its support to help Sri Lanka recover assets moved out of the country. Swiss Ambassador to Sri Lanka and designated Ambassador to the Maldives, Siri Walt, assured Switzerland’s assistance during a meeting with Secretary to the President, Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, at the Presidential Secretariat on 24 January.
Ambassador Walt offered guidance on international processes for reclaiming such assets and confirmed Switzerland’s readiness to provide essential resources and expertise to support these efforts.
Discussions also explored Switzerland’s potential role in bolstering Sri Lanka’s anti-corruption initiatives. The Swiss government expressed its commitment to offering technical and financial assistance, particularly for the “Clean Sri Lanka” program.
In addition, Ambassador Walt reaffirmed Switzerland’s dedication to addressing social challenges, promoting national reconciliation, and supporting development projects in Sri Lanka’s Northern region with necessary aid and resources.
Senior Additional Secretary to the President, Roshan Gamage, also attended the meeting.
This collaboration underscores Switzerland’s role as a key partner in Sri Lanka’s efforts to combat corruption, recover lost assets, and foster sustainable development.
