Suspected Gunman in Dehiwala Shooting Killed in STF Shootout
The suspect linked to the failed shooting near the Dehiwala Railway Station on July 18 was shot dead in a gunfight with the Special Task Force (STF) early this morning (25).
According to police, STF officers had received information about the suspect’s hideout and carried out a raid around 4:30 a.m. at an abandoned house in the Pahalagama area of Kadellawita, Kahatuduwa.
As the officers approached the location, the suspect had opened fire at them from inside the house. STF personnel responded with gunfire, critically injuring the suspect. He later died from his injuries.
One STF officer was injured during the exchange and is currently being treated at Kalubowila Hospital.
The suspect’s body has been moved to the Wethara Hospital for the postmortem examination. Investigations are ongoing.
