SOC discusses voting system for Sri Lankans in abroad
The Sectoral Oversight Committee on International Relations convened to discuss the establishment of a voting system for Sri Lankans residing abroad.
In a meeting chaired by MP Namal Rajapaksa, the committee, which met on the 8th, addressed this issue as highlighted by the Parliament of Sri Lanka.
Representatives from the National Election Commission indicated their readiness to create the required mechanism based on the legislature’s recent recommendation. They highlighted the development of an online registration technology to facilitate voter registration for overseas Sri Lankans.
MP Namal Rajapaksa expressed his intention to collaborate with the Speaker of the Parliament to implement this system.
Additionally, the meeting covered the proposal for a specialized visa category for SAARC nations, encompassing India, Bangladesh, and the Maldives.
