President will not involve in LG Polls activities: UNP

The UNP today announced that President Ranil Wickremesinghe informed the party that he will not involve in party activities with regard to Local Government Election.

The President said he has been given a mandate to resolve the current crisis of Sri Lanka within two years and he does not want to betray that mandate.

However, if the UNP decides to contest in the election, he would preside UNP Working Committee meeting as per the tradition of the party.

He has suggested to give at least 40% of nominations to fresh faces as well.
