Police Sergeant terminated over Easter Sunday Attacks

The Police has made the decision to terminate the employment of a Police Sergeant who was assigned to the Intelligence Bureau for neglecting his duties during the Easter Sunday Attacks 2019. At the time of the attacks, the Police Sergeant was on duty at the Katana Police station.

According to reports, the termination was a result of the Sergeant’s failure to take appropriate action based on the intelligence received regarding the terrorist attacks.

The Sri Lanka Police revealed that a charge sheet containing 12 charges, including disciplinary breaches, was presented against the Police Sergeant. In the initial instance, the Sergeant pleaded guilty to all charges. Consequently, the Inspector General of Police made the decision to terminate the Sergeant’s service.

Therefore, the Police Sergeant’s employment was terminated, effective from 14 June 2023.
