Piyumi Files Motion Against CID: Court Orders CID Officer to Respond

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has summoned the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Illegal Assets Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to appear before the court on March 21, 2025.

The order was issued after Sri Lankan model and influencer Piumi Hansamali who is currently under investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act over allegations of acquiring assets through illegal means, filed a motion claiming that the CID’s actions have negatively impacted her business. 

Her lawyer informed the court that CID officers have been questioning customers who purchase cosmetics from her business, causing inconvenience and affecting operations. He argued that these actions violate her fundamental rights. 

Taking these concerns into account, Colombo Additional Magistrate Manjula Ratnayake ordered the CID officer to appear in court and present facts regarding the matter.
