Newly registered political party announced

The Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA) which was inaugurated in 2015 has obtained legal recognition as a political party from the National Elections Commission.

Leader of the Party MP Mano Ganesan said the party will carry the symbol of a “Torch Light” in the national democratic mainstream of Sri Lanka. 

“Our people told us to get united, hence, we did,” Ganesan said in a Tweet. 

The Party which is led by Mano Ganesan from the Democratic People’s Front, together with the National Workers Front led by Palani Thigambaram, and the Up Country Peoples Front led by V. Radhakrishnan signed an MoU on 3rd June 2015 and formed the Alliance. 

The TPA is a registered party now and has Six MPs in the Parliament, while it has over 150 Local Government (LG) members in the LG councils in the Nuwara Eliya, Colombo, Kandy, Badulla, Ratnapura, Kegalle, Gampaha, and Matale districts.
