New Year ‘gift’ from railways: more than 60 trains to be cancelled tomorrow

More than 60 trains may get canceled tomorrow following the retirement of nearly 500 railway employees from the total workforce since 31 December 2022, Sri Lanka Station Masters’ Union warned today.

Chairman of the union told media that 44 train journeys were scheduled to be cancelled yesterday (31 December 2022) and 7 journeys were cancelled.

However, under the current circumstances, 60 – 70 journeys might cancel tomorrow, he said.

He warned of tensed situations would be erupted at railway stations Island wide because of this.

Although, they warned the authorities of this situation, no one paid attention to resolve it. This could even lead to a trade union action as well, he added.
