‘Kompanna Veediya’ in three languages

The Cabinet has given its approval and permission to publish a Gazette notification that includes the name of the ‘Kompanna Veediya’ Grama Niladhari (GN) division in all three languages.

This decision was announced during the weekly Cabinet meeting held at the Government Information Department this morning.

Previously, the GN division had different names in each language, with “කොම්පඤ්ඤ වීදිය” in Sinhala, “Slave Island” in English, and “கொம்பனித்தெரு” in Tamil.

In light of this, the Cabinet has now decided to establish the name of the GN division as “Kompanna Veediya” in all three languages.
