Interim Compensation Set for X-Press Pearl Disaster

The Government of Sri Lanka has agreed to accept the interim compensation for the to X-press Pearl maritime disaster.

The Attorney General’s Department said that the necessary notices in this regard were forwarded in writing to the ship’s insurance company and the law firm.

This interim compensation is to be received according to the interim compensation reports submitted by the Maritime Personnel Protection Authority.

The Attorney General’s Department said that the Maritime Environment Protection Authority has demanded an amount of USD 89 million and Rs 16 million as an interim compensation.

The shipping company’s insurance company and the lawyer’s company had previously expressed their willingness to pay the interim compensation.

The Attorney General’s Department stated that steps were taken to forward the government’s agreement in that regard to those companies.

Both parties referred to these agreements in relation to the decision taken in the discussions held in Singapore recently.
