Indian delegation arrives to discuss renewing ETCA
A team of 19 Indian officials, headed by Shri Anant Swarup, the chief negotiator, has arrived in Sri Lanka to engage in extensive discussions regarding the Economic and Technology Cooperation Agreement (ETCA), as announced by the President’s Media Division.
The PMD further stated that the negotiations for ETCA were reinitiated following President Wickremesinghe’s recent visit to India. The government has also confirmed its commitment to entering the 12th round of negotiations with India for ETCA.
Between 2016 and 2019, the two nations conducted 11 rounds of bilateral talks with the objective of expanding and strengthening the existing India-Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement (ISFTA).
According to the PMD, this comprehensive agreement encompasses a wider range of aspects compared to the current ISLFTA, highlighting the deepening economic bonds between the two countries.
