Immigration Dept says nearly 32,000 passports issued within 10 days in June
The Department of Immigration and Emigration has issued 31,725 passports in the first 10 days of this month, Deputy Controller of Immigration and Emigration Piumi Bandara said.
She said usually the average number of passports issued in 10 days is around 10,000. However, the Department has issued more than 3,000 passports per day within past few days, she said.
She said the Department on average issues around 2,000 passports daily under the one-day service. However, it has been decided to increase that number to 3,500. The decision was taken as many people come to obtain passports these days under the one-day service.
Meanwhile, although the government has declared Monday (13) as a public holiday, the Battaramulla Head Office and other regional offices of the Department of Immigration and Emigration will be opened as usual on that day, she said.
