IGP Says Authorities Knew of Threats Against Ganemulla Sanjeewa Before Court Shooting

Acting Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya revealed that authorities had prior intelligence on threats against alleged drug kingpin ‘Ganemulla Sanjeewa,’ who was fatally shot at the Hulftsdorp Court Complex.
Speaking at a media briefing, Weerasuriya stated that while intelligence indicated threats, it did not specifically warn of a Colombo shooting. A week earlier, when Sanjeewa was due in Gampaha court, authorities had court proceedings canceled and evidence presented virtually as a precaution.
He confirmed an investigation into why Sanjeewa was physically produced in court despite the threats.
Weerasuriya also dismissed claims by SJB MP Rohana Bandara regarding the involvement of a female accomplice, stating no such intelligence had been received.
