Gvt admits there is unusual increase in incidents of gas explosions

State Minister of Consumer Protection Lasantha Alagiyawanna today (29) admitted in Parliament that there is an unusual incresse in incidents related to gas explosions recently.

Making a special statement in Parliament on recent gas explosion incidents, the State Minister said that Sri Lanka has no laboratory to test tge quality of domestic gas and there is no standard introduced by Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI) about Propane and Butane in domestic gas.

He said that since January 2015, a total of 233 incidents of gas explosion have been reported.

“I admit that there is an unusual increase in gas explosions recently. Right now 12 gas samples from Colombo, Gampaha, Kaluthara, Kurunegala, Ratnapura and Galle have been sent to Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) for testing. The test results will be submitted to the University of Moratuwa then to provide recommendations to us,” Alagiyawanna said.
