Four children who stole lorry to see beach taken into Police custody

Four children in a child detention home in Nuwara Eliya who stole a lorry to see the beach were taken into custody following an accident in Nittambuwa.

The Police said the lorry which was driven by one of the children, a 16-year-old crashed into a van travelling in the same direction on Kandy – Colombo road.

Although they fled the scene after the accident, the driver of the van followed the lorry and managed to stop it. He then informed the Police about the accident.

Other children are aged 11 and 12 years and are residents of Nuwara Eliya, Thalawakale and Pudalu-oya.
