Ferry tragedy: Tense situation in Kinniya, 6 bodies recovered so far
Tensed situation has been reportedly erupted in Kinniya following the ferry tragedy which has taken lives of at least 6 persons in Kuringankerni area this morning.
The ferry had been transported school students this morning when it capsized.
According to the updates of the Provincial Correspondents in the area, people have gathered before the Kinniya Divisional Secretariat and expressed their displeasure over the incompetence of the authorities.
The people had even burnt tyres on the road.
Six bodies have been recovered by rescue teams while 12 persons have been rescued and hospitalized so far.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Navy has commenced a dedicated rescue mission to locate missing persons in ferry accident that occurred near Kurinchankerny bridge in Kinniya, Trincomalee.
The Navy deployed Eight rescue teams representing Rapid Action Boat Squadron (RABS), Special Boat Squadron (SBS), Marines and Divers and operations are underway to search missing persons.
