Azath Salley acquitted and released by Court
Former Western Province Governor Azath Salley was acquitted of charges of creating communal disharmony this morning (2) by Colombo High Court judge Amal Ranaraja.
Salley was arrested by the CID in March this year, on a charge of making extremist remarks during a media briefing in an attempt to spew disharmony amongst the communities, under the ICCPR.
He had been detained by the CID for five months, after which the court remanded him for three months.
